About the Book

1899--The moment Captain Blackheart Mardigan heard that Monserrat, the deadliest pirate in the Caribbean and his closest ally, had perished at the hands of Admiral Grey he vowed his vengeance. He planned the hunt, the attack and the judgement. What he did not plan was the Admiral's 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, being aboard the ship. Elizabeth Grey recently celebrated her sixteenth birthday a few weeks prior to her father's return from his mission to the Caribbean. On the eve of her Sixteenth, her and her mother stood in the family's chapel. Her mother handed her a small wooden box and told her to wait until she left the sacred alter to open it. Elizabeth did as she was told and waited. Once her mother left the room and as soon as the door closed shut, Elizabeth slowly opened the box. She could see that it was very old, made of dark mahogany wood and ornate with etchings she had never seen. Instantly, the room grew dark and a mist of light glowed from within. Elizabeth looked closer, passed the light and found, swaddled in dark blood red velvet, a very old cameo brooch. The trinket was made of pure ivory sculpted in the form of the Virgin Mary herself with edging embroidered in what looked like delicate lacelike gold trim infused with tiny, pinpoint, sized rubies. It was the most beautiful thing Elizabeth had ever seen. She was entranced especially when she looked into Mary's eyes, two rare black diamonds which illuminated a glow...a glow that had not only lit the room, but had also set forth a spell on the young Elizabeth that would not only protect her, but also haunt her the rest of her life. The moment Captain Mardigan realized the young girl's existence; he ordered both Grey and Elizabeth to die. As the Executioner raised his sword the captain's son, Alexander, cried out for his father to spare the beautiful maiden. Alexander was immediately captivated by Elizabeth and wanted her for his own. He knew he could not let her perish at the hands of his father regardless of the wrath he would face. Alexander, Captain Blackheart Mardigan's seventeen-year-old son, had no one to call ally until the night he met Elizabeth. After her father's death, he kept her safe and provided for her until one night while talking about their future, he realized she no longer had the will to live and she was dying right before his eyes. That night while everyone was asleep he woke her, quietly led her to the ship's small lifeboat and started rowing as fast as he could to shore. They were just about to make midway when two of the captain's men started firing their revolvers. Alexander was shot. The shots woke the Captain and he immediately alerted all to wake and retrieve the two young lovers. Alexander knew his fate and pleaded with Elizabeth to leave him, but she refused. She had fallen in love and feared he needed her more than she needed her freedom. He could hear the crew scurrying about the ship, shouting to one another and he knew if she stayed, he would no longer be able to protect her. For fear of her safety, he ordered Elizabeth to leave him and promised that no matter how long it took, he would find her and they would be together forever. She waited her entire life, even up to the moment she took her last breath, but he never came. 2018-When Elizabeth Parker, San Juan's newest Assistant DA, vacationed in Puerto Rico, she never dreamed she would move to San Juan let alone own a cliff side mansion overlooking the Atlantic. She was living the dream, or so she thought. Her dream quickly turned into a nightmare when one day, in the midst of renovations, she finds a box hidden deep within the walls. The box contained an antique brooch that once touched awakened a ghostly connection to not only the house and its previous owner the infamous pirate captain Captain Blackheart Mardigan, but to a past she had no knowledge of and the captain's son, Alexander, finally fulfilling The Promise He Made.
