About the Book

English summary: The presence of stoic paradoxes in the works of Latin poets reveals a particular adaptation of the Greek philosophy to Roman society. Rather than renouncing the Stoics troubling affirmations, and instead of seeking to convert readers to the intransigent perfection outlined in the paradoxes, authors such as Lucilius and Horatio underlined the radical new truths, attempting to awaken their readers understanding, shocking them to ease their conversion.
