About the Book
On this journey author and protagonist greet you with a blended voice. I have written this guide as environmental planning company owner, change management consultant, and poet. Stress and related ailments from unhealthy work environments pose serious public health risks. I attribute these to the DYSfunctional virus* (DYS). My personal and professional life experiences prompt me to combat DYS in the workplace with the purpose of attaining and maintaining Organizational Health and Fitness* (OH&F). My protagonist Puliziotta, entered my creative sphere and mindfully re-minded me that my mission needs her. And, no question, it does. You'll find out as I have, that you want to have Puliziotta on your team. Puliziotta's name is a play on words in Italian. Flip the vowels, "o" and "u" and you have poliziotta a female detective, and puliziotta a cleaning lady. Why Italian? Why not? From signature bandana to investigative tools, cleaning equipment, and applications (apps) with super powers, this cleaning lady / detective persona fits the creatively practical thrust of this book. Together we zap DYS. Using metaphors, mindfulness, and wisdom, we transform our work environments.Puliziotta embodies my personal and professional roots. Puliziotta approaches cleaning up DYS contaminated workplaces as our company does environmental assessments and remediation projects. Our company's private, public, and nonprofit sector clients run the gamut in terms of size and workplace environments, virtual and physical. My professional career as employee, employer, and consultant provide the basis for the five working lives presented here. I strongly believe that sound and lasting OH&F can make ours a better world to work in and live in. Hop on as Puliziotta gives wings to our voyage. Together with you, we travel, learn, lead the charge against toxic DYS invasions. We take mindful breaks to focus. We re-learn to play, write poetry and prose, draw, take deep healthful breaths, practice yoga, listen, see, with mind and heart. We brainstorm, gamestorm, and taste every bite of life's lessons. With mindfulness we differentiate between information and wisdom. Our tools find information quickly. With data we transform knowledge into wisdom. Rules of the game for us are integrity, honesty, trust, and respect. These pillars form our foundation for taking on the challenges of eliminating DYS. With clear vision, practicality and creativity, together, we customize solutions to eliminate toxic behaviors caused by DYS. We create healthy work environments to make a difference for colleagues, friends, family, and ourselves. Puliziotta and I take an active mindfulness based approach in pursuing our mutual passion for creating a healthy working world. We believe that active mindfulness builds leadership skills, by improving Emotional Intelligence* (CQ), Social Intelligence* (SQ), and Cultural Intelligence* (CQ). Self-aware, tuned into the now, we refute stereotypes, we infuse antidotes to transform DYSfunctional toxicity into vitality. We move forward with full brain thinking in our 21st century world.In her gutsy, no nonsense way Puliziotta dedicates her energies to discovering and blocking DYS from undermining OH&F. Her specialized tool kit defines paths toward long term solutions. With team work we escort DYS out of our working lives. Lasting OH&F depends on disciplined, mindfulness based problem solving strategies. We mean action, a key word in transforming, top down, bottom up, across, and out of, static, boxed up " we've always done it this way," mindsets. We create a "land of do and does" built on self-awareness, self-confidence, dynamic full brain, emotional, social, and cultural intelligence.
