About the Book

Pygmy goats are small, hardy animals indigenous to the Cameroon Valley in West Africa. These goats were first brought to Europe in the middle of the 20th century, primarily as exotic zoo animals. Their modest stature and friendly manner played a part in their increasing popularity. In the 1950s and 60s, pygmy goats were imported to the US, where they quickly became well-liked as pets and in petting zoos and agricultural exhibits. Because they can adapt to a wide range of climates and ecosystems, they can be found in a variety of habitats. Producing milk was initially their primary duty, particularly in their home regions. However, as they spread over the world, their role shifted to that of a buddy and pet owner. Pygmy goats are popular among goat enthusiasts these days due to their easygoing nature and adaptability. Characteristics and Features Pygmy goats can be identified by their short stature and muscular body. They are stocky in build, with a broad chest and a short, muscular neck. Their short, strong legs provide support for their robust frame. A fully grown pygmy goat typically stands 16 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 50 and 75 pounds. One of the most distinctive features of pygmy goats is their colorful coat, which can be black, white, caramel, or various shades of gray. Their medium-to-long, occasionally fairly dense coat shields them from bad weather. Their straight profile and cute little features add to their attractiveness. Pygmy goats are known to be gregarious and social creatures. Being highly gregarious creatures, they often beg for their owners' affection and attention. Because of their interest and intelligence, they are highly adept at learning new games and abilities. For such a small animal, they have extraordinary agility; they routinely hop and climb across their surroundings. Generally speaking, pygmy goats have very gentle, friendly temperaments. They get along well with children and other animals, making them excellent family pets. Their sociability also helps them work well in partnerships or small groups because they like being around other people. Pygmy goats are not only very adorable, but they are also vivacious and adaptive additions to any home. Whether kept for their cuddly nature or their mischievous activities, pygmy goats make wonderful additions to any pet-friendly environment.
