INTRODUCCION

Bardèche, en el punto cero del revisionismo y del neofascismo

Tengo de Maurice Bardèche el recuerdo de un abuelo entrañable que impresionaba inmediatamente por una porción de su frente hundida a raíz de un accidente de juventud. Era el director de Défense de l'Occident, uno de los alimentos intelectuales de mis primeros años de militancia política. Tuve que leer sus libros para proveerme de argumentos históricos y racionales. Leí también los textos de aquellos que fueron sus discípulos en los años 70 (en especial, François Duprat). La aventura intelectual de Bardèche se sitúa en el final del fascismo histórico y en el arranque del neofascismo y abarca un amplio período que va desde 1945 hasta 1982 cuando deja de aparecer Défense de l'Occident. Casi 40 años de historia que vale la pena conocer.

Prácticamente, todos los exponentes de las generaciones neofascistas europeas que se desplazaban a París entre 1948 y 1988, y que tenían algo de inquietud cultural y ansias de trabajar "a escala europea", antes o después acudíamos al apartamento de Maurice Bardèche en rue Rataud en pleno Barrio Latino. Había que descender en la estación de metro de Luxemburgo, seguir la rue Gay-Lussac (que durante la "revolución de mayo" fue escenario de los incidentes más violentos y las barricadas más duras, algunas de las cuales estaban defendidas por jóvenes que habían leído a Bardèche). Era una calle corta y con edificios bajos.

Bardèche, especialmente si, como era mi caso, no se le había visto nunca ni siquiera en fotos, impresionaba por tres motivos: en primer lugar, por tener una parte de la frente de unos 7-8 centímetros completamente hundida, entre los ojos y sobre un par de centímetros del arranque de la nariz. Luego por ser quien era: una leyenda en el neofascismo de postguerra que había protagonizado, no solamente los primeros despuntes de colaboración Inter europea entre distintas formaciones que se reclamaban del neofascismo, sino por ser el arranque en fecha muy temprana de los primeros textos revisionistas. Finalmente, por su energía, su fuerza y su vigor, el que atribuíamos a ser el cuñado de Robert Brasillach y haber asumido la defensa de su memoria. Atribuía el hundimiento del cráneo a alguna aventura política (me equivocaba). Su vida no había sido fácil, pero en la postguerra pronto destacó con luz propia y consiguió hacerse con un hueco en las letras francesas. No en vano era especialista en Balzac. Pero no es éste el Bardèche que nos interesa, sino aquel con el que arranca el neofascismo a nivel europeo. Esta es su historia.
