'Good Afternoon! It's a foggy and cold afternoon here in Coventry, the heart of England, and this is the news at the top of the hour from our news cat Mog Mittens...' That's how Tommy the Learned Cat starts his afternoon show on BBC Radio. Lots of important topics in the feline world are discussed on Tommy's show, from the latest news in politics (the Feline Society is debating the response to the Canine Society which accused the cats of being responsible for the extinction of 33 different species), to the world of science (did you know that scientists proved recently that every single domesticated cat can be traced back to one of the five African wild cats?), to the world of sports (Nanahuli, the one-eyed Rescue Cat in Hawaii, became the first feline surfer recorded in the history of feline-kind). And while listeners are enjoying the lovely meow mixing of music featuring titles that clawed their way to the top 10 in the chars, Tommy tells his young readers about the history of the radio and the British Broadcasting Company (or BBC for short). BBC began gathering families around bulky old radio sets in 1922, back in the day when television and internet were still non-existing terms. From Children's Hour, the first children's programme aired on BBC radio, to CBeebies, the modern-day show, Tommy tells how children were always an important part of BBC's audience. About the Author: Julie G. Fox. Author and Founder of Clever Fox Press. Julie's first book 'Goodbye, Emma' told the story of a boy refugee who was forced to leave behind his pet when his family fled the country. This book (which is still Julie's bestseller!) was based on a true story as Julie and her brother were refugees themselves. The proceeds from sale of 'Goodbye, Emma' as well as all other books Julie has authored and published since have always been donated to charities dedicated to helping children refugees. The first hundred copies of 'Goodbye, Emma' book were shipped to refugee camps in Greece and Iraq and to the charities which are working with children refugees in England, Canada, Germany, Greece and Turkey. After 'Goodbye, Emma' came out Julie felt that she had too many stories locked away in her head, and these stories had to somehow reach more children. She decided to connect with artists, illustrators and writers in the countries troubled by wars and economic problems, to encourage these talented and creative individuals, who lacked platform due to the difficult situations in their homelands, to contribute and to share their stories. Clever Fox Press which was founded by Julie in the early 2016 has since written and produced 25 more books with more projects on the way. We now have a terrific team of freelance artists and writers from Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Spain, Italy, Syria, Greece, South Korea, United States, Latvia and India. Our motto is to write up to children, not down as children are much more perceptive and intelligent than we give them credit for. Thus, we do not break down our books by age group as we believe these are also obsolete. Our books are written for children of all ages including parents and grandparents. We have also noticed drastic decline of poetry for children. An odd rhyme is there but real poetry has disappeared from book shelves altogether. So our other goal is to re-introduce poetry in the world of rhyme and non-rhyme which the business of children's books has become. We at Clever Fox Press are also big fans of folktlore and fairytales. These hold a world of wisdom passed down from one generation to the next and should never be forgotten but retold to our children as well as to our grandchildren.
