About the Book

Los Ramones son una banda genuina, original, que ha tenido una gran influencia sobre todos los grupos de rock que le sucedieron, algo que muy pocos grupos lograron en la historia. Sin ser técnicamente punks crearon el estilo que transformó radicalmente la historia del rock a mediados de la década del setenta. Su evidente primitivismo y minimalismo musical es más complejo que lo que se advierte a simple escucha; sus temas cortos, rápidos, directos, energéticos, divertidos, crudos y con melodía, contienen un trasfondo que va más allá de lo aparente. Grandes conocedores y escuchas de rock, la música que crearon es una síntesis de influencias (donde se mezclan los Beatles con los New York Dolls, Elvis con Iggy Pop y los Beach Boys con Led Zeppelin, entre otras) a la cual le han puesto su sello personal. Muy importante es también el tema de su imagen (que pergeñaron aún antes de saber si musicalmente funcionarían), la cual nunca fue traicionada a través de los años y las modas: camperas de cuero sobre remeras baratas, jeans rotos y zapatillas comunes. La misma vestimenta que usaban cuando eran unos adolescentes de clase media baja de Queens; el mismo vestuario de cualquier joven de los suburbio de Buenos Aires, Madrid o Tokio.
Para que te gusten los Ramones no hace falta nada, pero para entender su importancia hay que darles un contexto. Este trabajo nos cuenta su historia y nos adentra en la riqueza de su obra, resaltando todo lo que su autor (un verdadero especialista y amigo personal de varios de sus miembros) ha vivido junto a ellos de primera mano: charlas, recitales, entrevistas, comidas, ensayos, backstages, etc. Durante casi diez años el escritor, periodista y crítico de rock MARCELO GOBELLO (autor de más de 30 libros sobre rock, reconocido internacionalmente como uno de los máximos conocedores y especialistas de la banda) mantuvo un contacto permanente y estrecho con la banda (de 1987 a 1996), llegando a ser invitado por los propios músicos a sus hogares en Nueva York.
"Demasiado Duros Para Morir" nos cuenta la historia de una banda que, como escribiera el periodista americano Marc Spitz en la revista "Spin", cuando fueron elegidos la segunda banda más importante de la historia (solo por detrás de los Beatles):
"Como los tiburones, ellos no evolucionaron. No lo necesitaron."
