About the Book

Luna wants to read the MOST POPULAR dinosaur book, but there are too many small swirls, big hoops, and straight lines. WHOOSH! The teeny-tiny reading fairy Belle Bookworm comes to the rescue. But why do all these REAL dinosaurs appear? And will Luna be able to read in front of EVERYBODY at the next Bookworm Badge Storytime? A magical tale for young readers that love books, fairies, and dinosaurs.
This is the perfect picture book for young bookworms that a curious about the world of words as well as emergent readers that are still slightly scared of reading. Besides featuring 'REAL' dinosaurs such as the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, Pterodactyl and many more, the readers are also introduced to the Reading Fairy Belle Bookworm, who lives in the little bookshop that Luna and her father visit during the Bookworm Badge Storytime. Oh! How much Luna would love to receive a beautiful, shiny bookworm badge.... but first, she needs to improve her reading! That's when Belle Bookworm appears to encourage Luna throughout her reading adventure. After her courageous Storytime session in which she reads the MOST POPULAR dinosaur book and finally receives the so longed for Bookworm Badge, readers might find out if the creatures in Luna's new book become real too.
This picture book is perfect for young children but also emergent readers and reluctant readers. In its structure it is similar to an early chapter book, although the different sections are not separated into chapters. Rather, it follows the flow and form of a normal picture book. The illustrations are still an important part of the reading process, although they are not as detailed as in picture books for younger children. The illustrations are bold in colour and style and support the flow of the story.
Usually early reader books have a simple story, sentence structure and format, that allows children to read the book by themselves. Early readers are perfect for children from 5 years. The protagonists of The Reading Fairy are Belle Bookworm, Luna as well as six of the most popular dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Pterodactyl, Brachiosaurus and the Velociraptor. The names of the dinosaurs are slowly introduced through pictures and a pronunciation help. Although it isn't easy to read their names, especially as a beginner reader, the enormous interest in dinosaurs that young children have will encourage them to try. Reading their names will feel like a great achievement. The Reading Fairy is the positive voice in this book: Practice makes perfect! Just keep reading!
This picture book is for slightly advanced readers. However, it is also suitable for less experienced readers. With a little bit of support, it makes a great book for bedtime or any Storytime session. Fairy Belle Bookworm and the dinosaurs, that suddenly appear and later disappear, play a central role in this story. They represent the magic of books! Fairies are small beings in human form that often possess magical powers. Of course, Belle Bookworm uses her fairy dust to support Luna in her reading. Luna has reading anxiety. Her fear of reading can be caused by many different things. The long words scare Luna and she is also scared of never being able to pronounce the words correctly. She gets frustrated and wants to avoid reading.... but, beyond the reading fairy, there is something magical about books. Luna loves the Bookworm Badge Storytime. How wonderful would it be to read the most popular dinosaur book in front of everybody at the next Storytime? Through the encouragement of the reading fairy, her father and the bookseller, Luna starts to practice at home. When dinosaurs become alive, Luna simply accepts this as part of the reading process - the magic is real! Through the magic of books, Luna learns to overcome her reading anxiety. Just keep reading! The next Bookworm Badge Storytime is a success. But now, all of the dinosaurs have disappeared! Perhaps the magic is always real?
