About the Book

English summary: Jessica Mitford decided to write this book after visiting her mothers house in 1955, where she found the swastikas and communist hammers she and her sister had engraved on the windows when they were children. These strange remains of childhood lead to an intimate reflection on the ravages created by families, on the mix of rebellion and honor that allowed Mitford to instill her hereditary title with the torments and happiness as one of the preeminent communist writers of the later twentieth century.
