Alexey Alexandrovich Kostin, born 24 January 1953 in Lithuania (Taurage). Head of the Private International and Civil Law Department of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (since 2004). Chairman of the International Commercial Arbitration Court (since 2010) and the Maritime Arbitration Commission (since 2011) at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Has been teaching the law of international trade and international commercial arbitration for over 40 years. Visiting Professor, University College London (1987), Boalt Hall Law School, California (1991), York University, Toronto (1991), Wake Forest Law School, North Carolina (1994), Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, London (1998), The Hague Academy of International Law (2013).
Author of numerous publications on various aspects of international trade law, private international law, international commercial and domestic arbitration. As arbitrator for over 30 years participated in resolving numerous disputes under different arbitration rules in Russia and abroad (Stockholm, Paris, London, Geneva, Zurich, Vilnius, Kiev, Chisinau, Munich, Ulan Bator).
Councillor of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), the Advisory Board at the Vienna International Arbitration Center (VIAC), Member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). Member of the Scientific-Consultative Councils at the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Member of the Council for Codification and Development of Civil Legislation at the President of the Russian Federation.
Took an active part in drafting of the Geneva Convention on Limitation and Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the Law on Arbitration Courts in the Russian Federation (2002), the Law on Arbitration (Arbitral Proceedings) and Revisions to the Law on International Commercial Arbitration (2015) of the Russian Federation.
