Jean-Marc Sorel, né le 11 juin 1960 à Paris.
Diplômé d'études approfondies en droit public et en sciences politiques, docteur en droit (prix de la chancellerie), et agrégé des universités. Il a été maître de conférences à l'Université Paris X Nanterre et à l'Institut d'études politiques de Paris, professeur à l'Université de Rennes et professeur associé à l'Ecole spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan, et est depuis 2000 professeur à l'Ecole de droit de la Sorbonne (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).
Il a été directeur du CERDIN (Centre d'études et de recherches en droit international) puis de l'IREDIES (Institut de recherche en droit international et européen de la Sorbonne), qu'il a créé, de 2007 à 2013. Il dirige le Master 2 de droit international économique et enseigne le droit international général, le droit du contentieux international, l'analyse juridique des conflits territoriaux et maritimes, et le droit des relations monétaires et financières internationales. Il est l'auteur d'ouvrages et d'articles dans ces domaines (voir Principales publications).
Il est membre de la Société française pour le droit international (SFDI), de l'Association de droit international (ADI), branche française de l'International Law Association, et la Société européenne de droit international (European Society of International Law). Il fut membre du Comité de rédaction de la Revue générale de droit international public de juin 2004 à 2013. Outre de nombreuses responsabilités universitaires, il a été membre du jury de l'ENA (Ecole nationale d'administration) en 1995 et 1998, du jury de l'Ecole militaire interarmes en 1996, du jury du concours externe d'agrégation de droit public (2005-2006), et membre du Conseil national des universités de 2003 à 2007.
Il est avocat et conseil dans des affaires auprès de la Cour internationale de Justice.
