About the Book

Larisa Goldman's book "Reflections on Piano Pedagogy" is based on the author's extensive practice in teaching piano to beginners and students of music schools and conservatories in Russia, the United States, and Canada. In the book, the author analyzes and summarizes the outstanding experience of the piano teachers of the past. Written in simple language, the book is geared primarily to young teachers; however, experienced teachers will find a plethora of interesting and useful information on improving their teaching experience. Learners will also find it useful and entertaining.
About the Author: Ms. Larisa Goldman was born in 1940 in the city of Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine). When World War II broke out, her family was evacuated to the city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals. There, at the age of five, she began to learn playing piano at a music school, then at a music college. At the same time, she attended a regular school, which she completed with a diploma of excellence. Then, she entered Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute. After graduation, she was awarded a diploma of excellence and started working in a Soviet military lab as a design engineer. However, her future was predetermined by her passionate love for music. In 1965, she entered the Novosibirsk Conservatory, where her teacher was professor Zinger; she completed it in 1969 with a diploma of excellence as well. She devoted the rest of her life to teaching piano. She also served as the chief music methodologist of the Chelyabinsk region for several years. In 2001, Ms. Goldman moved to New York City, where she continues advising students. She also gives master classes in New York, Boston, and Toronto.
