About the Book

The book is organized into three sections covering production, process and archive, each bringing together two artists in conversation. Writers from both within and out-with the art community also contribute essays in response to specific artworks, which take a variety of forms from the essayist to the personal or the poetic. In collaboration with Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, Toronto.
About the Author: Sheree Hovsepian (b. Iran, 1974) is an American contemporary artist living in New York. She has exhibited extensively across the US and her work forms part of the public collection in institutions inc. The Spertus Museum, Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago and The Studio Museum in Harlem, NY.
Annie MacDonell is an artist living and working in Toronto. Her work shifts through photography, film, sculpture, sound and installation in a practice that questions the assumptions of originality, authenticity and progress central to Modernist thought.
Lucy Raven: Lucy Raven uses animation as the foundation for her exploration of still and moving image. She has been exhibited at The Kitchen, NY; Mass MoCA, The Boise Museum of Art and Sculpture Center. She is a founding editor of The Relay Project audiomagazine and is Editorial Director of Bidoun magazine.
Alexis Dirks: Often using found images as a starting point, Dirks' work investigates a nostalgic relationship to the landscape and nature. Through the process of editing, deleting, and fragmenting images, she questions where boundaries between a geographical landscape ends and an internal landscape might begin. She received her MFA from the Glasgow School of Art and has worked with Canadian magazines "Canadian Dimensions" and "The Manitoban."
Aura Satz: London-based artist Aura Satz explores this complex blend of human and machine. Her work is a mix of delight in archaic technologies and an engagement with the uncertainty they engender in terms of bodily perception and human agency.
Brea Souders: Brea Souders is a fine art photographer based in New York. She often incorporates other media and materials into her photographic pieces, which begin life as a sketch. From there, the image builds layer by layer. Recent fashion commissions have included stories for L'Officiel Art and The New York Times. Brea has held solo exhibitions at Daniel Cooney Fine Art and Abrons Arts Center in NYC and has participated in group exhibitions at Camera16 Contemporary Art in Milan, the Center for Photography at Woodstock and M+B Gallery in Los Angeles.
