About the Book

Bernadine Stetzel, like many Americans, vividly recalls the earth shattering day in November 1963 when the grim news broke of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. She had always admired Kennedy and the hope and promise he brought his country. Upon his death she felt compelled to pay homage to the late president. As an artist, she chose to record, in her unique primitive style of painting, a remembrance of Kennedy. Over a period of twenty years, Mrs. Stetzel's series grew to a total of 71 paintings. Her dream of finding a permanent home for them-a place where they would be cared for and maintained for generations to come-finally became a reality in 2011. Mrs. Stetzel donated the entire series to The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. "Remembering J.F.K." now completes her homage to the late president.
About the Author: Bernadine Stetzel is a self-taught, American primitive artist. Painting since the age of twelve, Stetzel's work has both a personal and historical significance as she records in oils and watercolors, both past and current events. Stetzel has received numerous awards for her artwork, including a second place award from the Toledo Museum of Art's Area Artist's Exhibition for her print, John F. Kennedy Ticker-Tape Parade, in New York City. Her work has been exhibited in numerous one-woman shows throughout the country. A documentary on Stetzel's artwork, Memory Painting: the Art of Bernadine Stetzel, was produced by Bowling Green State University and broadcast on PBS stations in Ohio. Stetzel's paintings can be found in private collections both in the United States and abroad. She has written and illustrated the children's books; "Rainbow" and "Valentine" as well as illustrating versions of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and Clement C. Moore's "The Night Before Christmas."
