About the Book

Humanity is facing extinction.
Rosy Tang, a teenager with extraordinary powers, could prevent it . . .

The Archoi, extradimensional god-like Beings, guide the evolution of species in the human universe. In the 24th century a misjudgment on Their part begins a premature extinction of Homo sapiens without a corresponding emergence of a replacement species. Now, a quarter century later, the Archoi choose a starship captain and her gifted daughter to aid Them in Their attempt to forestall the disappearance of humanity from the galaxy.

Shawna Tang, a crusader for human unity and peace, is kidnapped by New Order, social radicals with aspirations of galactic empire. In their attempt to use Shawna's telepathic powers for their own agenda the revolutionaries force Shawna to enter a higher dimension realm. Unbeknownst to her captors Shawna meets the Archoi in that realm and becomes embroiled with the Their machinations to shape human destiny. Just prior to her escape from New Order, the Archoi take advantage of Shawna's affair with one of her captors and engineer the conception of an exceptionally endowed child. From even before her birth Rosy Tang exhibits extraordinary psionic powers which the Archoi give her to help Them establish the vanguard of a new human species: the Forerunners.

While Rosy is still in her teens, Shawna forever leaves her family and friends behind and returns to the Archoi realm where her presence will slow down but not altogether prevent the extinction event. Shawna's sacrifice is intended to give Rosy time to find and establish the Forerunners, who are spread throughout human space and unaware of their destiny. Rosy must do her part or her mother's sacrifice will be to no avail. First she must grow up.

From childhood Rosy has known of this call upon her life. She chafes at times under its burden while at other times she uses her powers irresponsibly. As she becomes an adult she makes the choice to take seriously her mission, with a caveat. She agrees to help the Archoi in Their mission as long as she is allowed to also pursue her own happiness in some semblance of a normal life. It isn't long before she finds that the two goals may be mutually exclusive. How she manages the conflict could spell out the future for humankind.

While awaiting guidance from the Archoi Rosy crews on the Starchaser, the starship captained by her father, Ethan Styrnak. Ethan is a spacer who travels the galaxy trading goods for a living. The liberated lifestyle of the space stations they visit, and the romantic liaisons enjoyed by others Rosy's age threaten to distract her from her mission for humanity.

Finding her first Forerunner turns Rosy back to the mission she was born to. When she meets Kelly, a merchant ship captain, Rosy believes she may be able to have both her life choices. Yet there are revelations to come that threaten to crush Rosy's dreams and throw into doubt the Archoi plans. And there are powers beyond those even of the Archoi that wish to craft an altogether different future for humankind.
