About the Book

We have here two life stories, which coincide with the establishment of the State of Israel. On one hand, we have the story of the escape and survival of Edith (Etu) Nachshon, (born Gutman), a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Israel from Hungary. On the other hand, we have the story of her husband, Moshe, a seventh generation "sabra" from a deeply rooted Jerusalem family, a man who, during the struggle that preceded the founding of the State, served as the commander of the "Etzel" Underground Branch in Petah Tikva. Together, these two symbolize the amazing integration between those who came to the country as damaged survivors of the Holocaust, and those who fought in Israel for the right to establish a Jewish State, a homeland for all Jews. This is a book about aspirations that became reality, about many difficulties along the way, and about impressive achievements
About the Author: We find two testimonies in this book. Two life stories which came together more than 61 years ago and turned into one entity. This is the tale of two people who married when the State of Israel was established and who have never been apart. Their fates have been intertwined since then. This is also a story of a wonderful love, and of the unfailing devotion of a wife for a husband who became gravely ill and for whom she has been caring for many years, up to the present time. On one hand, it is the story of the flight and survival of Edith (Eto) Nachshon (born Gutman), a Holocaust survivor who came to Israel from Hungary. Edith, who succeeded in escaping from the Nazis in April, 1944, saved not only herself but also many of her family members. On the other hand, it is the story of Moshe Nachshon-Ettinger, a seventh generation member of a deeply rooted family from Jerusalem, who was the commander of the "Etzel" (National Military Organization) branch in Petach Tikva. In time, Moshe pursued the study of law and became an outstanding attorney in Israel. As a Holocaust survivor and a "sabra" from Jerusalem, these two people symbolize, above all, the connection and commitment to the State of Israel, which rose from the ruins of the Holocaust and from the struggles during the Wars of Independence and Defense. One can see here, as well, the story of Israel itself and of the fighters of the "Etzel", who battled, without compromise, until the British were ejected and the State was finally established. This is a special tale of ambitions which were finally fulfilled, and of many difficulties as well as outstanding accomplishments.
