Immer mehr Händler und Kunden nutzen den Online-Handel um im Internet schnell und bequem einzukaufen. Um jedoch eine effiziente und sichere Abwicklung zu gewährleisten, die für den Händler kostengünstig und zugleich für den Kunden zufriedenstellend ist, müssen eine Reihe von Aspekten beachtet werden. Neben den Fragen des richtigen Shop-Systems und der anschaulichen Gestaltung des Internetsauftritts ist ein Aspekt besonders wichtig, die Abwicklung von Retouren. Retouren gehören zum Alltag eines Online-Händlers wie zum Online-Shopping-Verhalten der Kunden. Häufig kommen Bestellungen erst zustande, wenn die Möglichkeit gegeben wird, die Ware bei Nichtgefallen zurückzusenden. So birgt das Retourenmanagement innerhalb des E-Commerce Chancen und Risiken für den Unternehmer. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Entwicklung von E-Commerce und Retourenmanagement mit der Hilfe von Literatur- und Internetrecherche aufzuzeigen. Dabei sollen auch die verschiedenen Anwendungsformen des E-Commerce untersucht werden. Zudem soll die Unterscheidung in reaktives und präventives Retourenmanagement die unterschiedlichen Methoden aufzeigen. Testbestellungen, die von der Autorin bei Amazon, eBay, Zalando und OTTO durchgeführt werden, sollen zeigen, wie Deutschlands größte Online-Shops die Methoden des Retourenmanagements einsetzen.
