About the Book

A pair of star-crossed lovers shares a strange, portentous dream. In the early years of the 19th century, young Caroline Markham grows up in Oxfordshire under the maternal wing of her wealthy godmother--cherished and indulged, admired, protected--and haunted. Secretly oppressed by the grim legacy of her father's failed ambitions, she bears in silence the burden of the deathbed promise extracted by her mother, and suffers a strange, recurring dream of an abandoned garden, a mysterious search, and a beckoning voice that leads to an ancient desert tomb. It is a dream that devolves into nightmare--a nightmare unwittingly shared by Edward Reynolds, the man who steals Caroline's heart. Reckless Edward is love-struck at first sight; he pursues Caroline, courts her and begs her to be his wife. But he is not at all the sort of person her parents would have approved. Heartbroken, yet desperate to fulfill her secret vow, Caroline refuses Edward and marries a suitor she does not love--setting off a chain of events that threatens to destroy them both.
About the Author: Sherre Costello is a self-confessed late bloomer who grew up reading everything she could get her hands on. At an early age she became fascinated by myths, legends and traditional tales recounting visionary experiences and journeys in the spiritual world, both of a haunting and healing nature. In later years she became an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, romance and adventure stories of all sorts. Like many people interested in the supernatural, she has long been intrigued by dreams and the messages they contain. The recurring dream she has woven through her first historical romance, Revenant, is an evolving psychic experience shared by the dreaming lovers, a magic thread which draws them inexorably closer as its signs and omens are revealed in the tangled outward events of their separate lives. Sherre is a fan of all the Inklings; she learned a great deal from mystery writer Dorothy Sayers and her friend Charles Williams. She has a Bachelor's degree in French and a Master's in English. She lives in Northern California.
