"Ein Gespenst geht um in Europa - das Gespenst des Kommunismus." - Dieser Satz dagegen wurde weltberühmt. Er gehört zu einem der wirkungsmächtigsten Texte aller Zeiten: Zum Kommunistischen Manifest. Mit diesem wird Marx denn auch stets in Verbindung gebracht, doch so gut wie nie mit literarischer Sensibilität, Theatralität und sprachlicher Ausdrucks-kraft. Grund genug, dieses Thema näher zu beleuchten. Obwohl Karl Marx den größten Teil seines Lebens studierte, recherchierte und neben seinem Hauptwerk "Das Kapital" eine Menge berühmter Texte schrieb, wird er bis heute von den meisten Menschen stets mit dem Kommunistischen Manifest in Verbindung gebracht. Wer "Marx" hört, denkt an Kommunismus, Revolution, und natürlich an den Aufruf zur internationalen Arbeitersolidarität. Geht es jedoch um Ästhetik und Ausdruckskraft, kaum jemand käme auf die Idee, den Namen Karl Marx damit zu verbinden - obwohl das Manifest mit seiner Popularität genau so vielen Menschen bekannt sein dürfte, wie etwa die Bibel, und man davon ausgehen müsste, dass die Rezipienten ihre Faszination an der Schrift auch in ihrer sprachlichen Qualität hätten suchen müssen. Das ist in den vergangenen 165 Jahren jedoch kaum der Fall gewesen. Im Verhältnis zu ihren politischen, philosophischen, ökonomischen, sozialgeschichtlichen, historischen und kulturellen Interpretationen ist die Zahl der Untersuchungen ihrer literarischen Seite sehr gering. Und so ist dem Kommunistischen Manifest etwas Janusköpfiges immanent. Es gehört zwar zur Weltliteratur, aber es ist kaum literaturanalytisch behandelt worden.
