Viele, die einmal in seine abenteuerliche Welt eingetaucht sind, zeigen sich begeistert von den spannenden Abenteuern und dem wissenschaftlichen Detailreichtum der Geschichten, aber auch vom ironischen Humor und den kritischen Zukunftsvisionen Vernes. Dieser hat mit seinen Romanen schon etliche Generationen fasziniert und unterhalten und gilt heute als einer der größten französischen Schriftsteller des 19. Jahrhunderts. Am 24. März 2005 jährte sich der Todestag des beliebten Romanautors zum 100. Mal. Als Jules Verne am 24. März 1905 starb, hinterließ er ein umfangreiches literarisches Erbe, das in aller Welt bekannt war. Doch wie sieht es heute aus - hundert Jahre nach seinem Tod? Die technischen Erfindungen und wissenschaftlichen Errungenschaften, die Verne in seinen Romanen beschreibt und die das Publikum des 19. Jahrhunderts in Staunen versetzten, sind längst von der Wirklichkeit eingeholt worden. Hat dies der Faszination, die von seinen Büchern ausgeht, einen Abbruch getan? Ist Jules Verne zusammen mit dem 19. Jahrhundert ein Teil der Vergangenheit geworden oder sind seine Werke auch heute noch präsent? Was hat sich verändert im Verlauf von 150 Jahren Rezeption? Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit soll es sein, auf diese Fragen eine Antwort zu finden. Zu diesem Zweck sollen sowohl die Verbreitung der Verne'schen Romane in den einzelnen Medien als auch die Aufnahme und Beurteilung derselben durch das Publikum betrachtet werden. Dabei setzt die Untersuchung der Rezeptionsgeschichte Jules Vernes am Beginn seiner schriftstellerischen Karriere an und endet mit der Gegenwart, rund 150 Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung seines ersten Romans.
