Le récit se présente comme un véritable cours d'éducation sexuelle, prenant pour cadre le monde clos de la demeure du père adoptif de Laure. Avec la jeune gouvernante Lucette et d'autres protagonistes, les ébats se font à deux, trois ou quatre personnages mais toujours gradués et ordonnés par le père dans un but didactique. De bout en bout, l'éducation dispensée à Laure est autant morale et philosophique que sexuelle et anatomique, ce qui n'est pas sans rappeler La Philosophie dans le Boudoir de Sade.

Un récit plaisant à lire, alternant passages philosophiques légers et scènes érotiques torrides.
