Als ihr Vater, früh verwitweter Bauer und strenger Priester der wenigen Christen in der Gegend nördlich der Themse, die Geduld mit ihr verliert, schickt er sie übers Meer zu entfernten Verwandten als Erzieherin nach Karthago, das man heute noch als Ruinenstätte am Rande des ebenso alten Tunis findet. Dort gerät sie in einen dramatischen, alles verschlingenden Strudel der Geschehnisse, und ihr Leben mündet unaufhaltsam in neue Bahnen: Rufilla verliebt sich nämlich in einen Jüngling, den schönsten weit und breit und fordert damit die mörderische Rivalität der ob ihrer makellosen Gestalt allenthalben bewunderten und darob von ihr heiß beneideten Iunia heraus. Es kommt dann, wie es kommen muss, zu einem grausigen Ende, als sich die tödlichen Geschehnisse überschlagen und alles mit sich in den Abgrund reißen ...
About the Author: Helmut Schareika, fachlich Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaftler sowie Historiker, ist als Herausgeber, Übersetzer und Autor tätig. Er entwickelte Unterrichts- und Lehrwerke, als Übersetzer und Bearbeiter legte er zahlreiche literarische sowie Sachbuch- und Lehrwerksübersetzungen vor. Er übersetzt aus dem Ital., Franz., Engl., Neugriech. In verschiedenen eigenen Veröffentlichungen waren Schwerpunkte bisher kulturhistorische und linguistische Werke zu antiken Themen sowie zu aktuellen Themen des heutigen Griechenlands.
