About the Book

A society ridden with cast and religion and enmeshed in poverty where feudal polished by colonial rule always employed 'Routine' and 'Rule slavery' methods, two young people men and women are joined in struggle to challenge 'put down' methods. In the hilly environment of chilling cold two young people from two different stream of life joined together to expose organizational corruption going on in a hydro electric project. This was bound to irritate many who were eating huge funds from the project outlay. On one hand people were employing project funds for advancing their personal businesses and living the life of comforts of luxuries workers at bottom were living in most miserable conditions. On the other hand hilly state of Shanak was totally away from democratic methods, where modern advancements like media and rail transport was absent, things like workers rights were unheard of things, rather such things were obstructed and thumb rule was employed to put down any form of dissent. The work involved was obstructing the flow of the river and to stream it through a narrow passage by constructed tunnels in the hill to throw it throw a narrow aperture hundreds of feet down below on the wheel of the turbine which was to generated electricity. A hydro electric generation power house was constructed inside the hill. The work was most difficult and there were number of deaths. There was almost no facility to treat the people and victims have to be taken to plains in India which resulted deaths before treatments. For compensation, workers were recruited locally on very inhuman conditions and on a little pittance they were thrown to India to rely on their means or if it be Shanak workers similarly on their means of utter hardships. Indian bureaucracy drawn from Indian upper classes shed its crocodile tears which served only media propaganda. Princely state of Shanak was without words, no media, no public life and Indian bureaucracy say, 'it happens', 'death happens in such cases'. Young people Vinay and swapna resented these things and their cooperation and struggle with workers resulted in transforming many situations. Which readers will feel to become part of it.
