Uber Nutzen und Moglichkeiten von Satire in der sowjetischen Gesellschaft wurde nach 1917 viel gestritten. Die unterschiedlichen in den 20er und 30er Jahren artikulierten Positionen, kulturpolitischen Orientierungen und ihre Folgen fur die Satireproduktion werden umfassend dargestellt. Dabei wird nicht nur der Zusammenhang zwischen Demokratiebeschrankungen und sich verengender Literaturprogrammatik aufgezeigt, sondern es werden auch die bis in die 30er Jahre reichenden ernsthaften Uberlegungen des Kulturpolitikers Anatoli Lunatscharski, des sozialistischen Theoretikers Georg Lukacs sowie des Kulturtheoretikers Michail Bachtin zu Fragen der Satire analysiert.
Die Autorin untersucht drei wesentliche Richtungen sowjetischer Satire, die fur die bis Anfang der 30er Jahre noch mogliche Vielfalt der Literatur stehen. Mit dem traurigen Moralisten Soschtschenko, dem aggressiven Satiriker Bulgakow und den an der Grenze zwischen Satire und Humor agierenden frohlichen Co-Autoren Ilf und Petrow wurden Schriftsteller ausgewahlt, deren Werke bis heute die Leser fesseln. Die subtile Analyse ihres satirischen Schaffens, der Moglichkeiten und Grenzen ihrer Wirksamkeit erschliessen dem Leser die Eigenart der Schriftstellerbiographien und die Stellung der Satiriker im literarischen Leben der Sowjetunion."
About the Author: Die Autorin: Birgit Mai, geboren 1952. Studium der Russistik/Anglistik in Berlin und Woronesh von 1970 bis 1976.
Von 1976 bis 1991 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Zentralinstitut fur Literaturgeschichte in Berlin. Promotion 1980. Aufsatze, Nachworte und Herausgaben zur russischen Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts, zum Beispiel zu Weniamin Kawerin, Michail Soschtschenko, Juri Trifonow, Juri Bondarew, den Lyrikern Juri Woronow und Nikolaj Majorow. Mit einem Beitrag uber den sowjetischen Kunstpsychologen Lew S. Wygotski beteiligt an dem Band -Literaturtheorie und Literaturkritik in der fruhsowjetischen Diskussion.
