About the Book

Man schreibt das Jahr 1973 und die Sommerferien haben begonnen. Vater Friedrich, der vor 13 Jahren selbst Binnenschiffer gewesen ist, möchte seinen 13-jährigen Sohn Fritz für zwei Wochen zu seinem Bruder, den Onkel Justus, auf die MS HELGA schicken. Vater Friedrich und Onkel Justus haben ein sehr distanziertes Verhältnis, Geschehnisse aus der Vergangenheit haben dazu beigetragen. Aber Onkel Justus, der mag seinen Neffen und Nichten sehr und so ist der familiäre Kontakt auf Friedrichs Kinder zusammengeschrumpft. Fritz ist gar nicht begeistert, so weit weg von zu Hause auf diesem großen Schiff, ganz allein. Da ist der laute Motor, der komische alte Steuermann Michl und sein Cousin Albrecht, der 15-jährige Sohn und Schiffsjunge auf dem Schiff von Onkel Justus und mit denen kann er bestimmt nicht so absonderlich. Es wird schnell langweilig werden, seine Erfahrungen aus den letzten Ferien vor vier Jahren haben all das damals bestätigt. Aber Justus unterbreitet auf einmal den Vorschlag, Fritz soll sich doch einfach einen Schulfreund mitbringen. Somit wird der Nachbarsjunge Wolfi, den alle Wombl nennen, etwas jünger als Fritz, von ein paar Häusern weiter in Ihrer Straße, dazu überredet, diese zwei Wochen mit Fritz zusammen auf der MS HELGA zu verbringen. Eine Reise mit vielen Abenteuern und Erlebnissen beginnt, eine fremde Welt mit ständig neuen Örtlichkeiten macht jeden Tag ereignisreich. Onkel Justus ist super und ganz anders lernen sie nun den erst gefürchteten alten Steuermann Michl kennen, denn der ist in Wirklichkeit vollgepackt mit tollen Geschichten und eigentlich ein recht lustiger Kauz. Auch Albrecht ist ein anderer geworden. In dieser Harmonie an Bord, voller Spaß und Abenteuer, hat sich Fritz vorgenommen, die beiden zerstrittenen Brüder irgendwie wieder zusammenzuführen. Ein schwerer Weg, der durch ein kleines unvorhergesehenes Unglück etwas einfacher werden soll.
