Doktorarbeit / Dissertation aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Kunst - Kunstgeschichte, Note: 1, Universität Wien (Institut für Kunstgeschichte), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Schloss Prugg in Bruck an der Leitha, Niederösterreich, wurde um etwa 1240 im damaligen Grenzgebiet zu Ungarn errichtet. Die Anlage befand sich über Jahrhunderte hinweg in landesfürstlichem Besitz und hatte im Zusammenhang mit ihrer Situierung lange Zeit offensichtlich eine nicht unwesentliche strategische Funktion. Diese beschränkte sich keineswegs auf reale Wehraufgaben, sondern bestand auch in der demonstrativen Darstellung von Herrschaftsmacht. Für eine einstmals besondere Bedeutung der Burg spricht unter anderem, dass sie ursprünglich offenbar als Kastellburg mit vier Türmen konzipiert wurde, von denen nach einer Planänderung allerdings nur zwei zur Ausführung kamen. Der Kastelltypus war auch für eine Reihe weiterer Grenzburgen vorgesehen, mit denen Schloss Prugg allem Anschein nach eine "Wehrkette" bilden sollte. Im Lauf der Zeit wurden an der mittelalterlichen Anlage von Schloss Prugg - das sich seit 1625 im Eigentum der Familie Harrach befindet - immer wieder bauliche Erneuerungen und Veränderungen vorgenommen. Diese zum Teil mit beträchtlichen Kosten verbundenen Arbeiten waren mit unterschiedlichen Absichten verbunden: Neben reinen Reparatur- und Instandhaltungsarbeiten waren geänderte Anforderungen an das Gebäude ausschlaggebend, sei es in praktischer, militärischer oder ästhetischer Hinsicht. Die massivsten Eingriffe in die Bausubstanz der Burg erfolgten zu Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts, als sie durch Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt zu einem Barockschloss umgestaltet wurde. Kurz nach der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde die Anlage schließlich im Sinne des Historismus adaptiert, wovon jedoch hauptsächlich die Fassaden betroffen waren. Fast gänzlich verschont von den verschiedenen Umbauten blieb über die Jahrhunderte hinweg nur der sogenannte "Heidenturm" - er ist somit der einzige, bis heut
