About the Book

Als Alec Hay, General des Königlichen Regiments Schottlands und Earl of Errol, aus dem Krieg zurückkehrt, ist seine Mutter fest entschlossen, ihn zu verheiraten. Alec, einst bekannt für sein attraktives, verwegenes Aussehen, trägt nun eine Narbe, die sein halbes Gesicht entstellt und jede potenzielle Braut zurückschrecken lässt. Unwillig, zu einem weiteren Flirt gezwungen zu werden, flieht Alec mit seinem Pferd auf den Landsitz der Familie, muss dort jedoch auf einem Ausritt während sintflutartiger Regenfälle in einer Ruine Unterschlupf suchen.

Lady Giselle Hepburn, eine impulsive Frau, reitet im selben Sturm von einem benachbarten Anwesen im Versuch davon, ihrer Familie und einer Zwangsheirat mit einem bösartigen, finsteren Mann zu entkommen. Dabei wird sie von ihrem Pferd abgeworfen und stürzt fast über eine Klippe, wird jedoch von einem gutaussehenden, mysteriösen Highlander gerettet. Ihr verstauchter Knöchel und die Wetterverhältnisse, die zu gefährlich sind, um weiterzureiten, veranlassen Giselle dazu, das Ende des Sturms mit dem Fremden gemeinsam abzuwarten.

Zu Alecs Erstaunen ist Giselle die erste Frau, die nicht vor seiner Narbe zurückschreckt und ihn wie einen Mann und nicht wie ein abscheuliches Ungeheuer behandelt. Während der Sturm die Nacht hindurch wütet, erzählen sie einander von der Entschlossenheit ihrer aufdringlichen Familien, sie zu verheiraten. Dabei erfährt Alec, dass Giselles zukünftiger Mann sein größter Feind ist. Alec besteht darauf, dass Giselle ihn in sein Anwesen begleitet, um dort zu genesen. Auf dem Landsitz angekommen, präsentiert er ihr eine Lösung für ihrer beider Probleme: Was wäre, wenn sie einander heirateten? Kann eine Vernunftehe sie beide von ihren Problemen befreien oder kommt ihnen die Liebe unerwartet in die Quere?
