Schweine im Paradies ist Satire, politisch, literarisch und lustig. Es ist eine Übung in Meinungsfreiheit und gleichzeitig eine Kritik an der Religion in der Politik, insbesondere am amerikanischen Evangelikalismus.

Als Blaise auf einem israelischen Bauernhof Lizzy, das "rote Kalb", zur Welt bringt, strömen die Massen in Scharen herbei, um der Wundergeburt beizuwohnen, die das Ende der Welt und die Rückkehr oder Ankunft des Messias einläuten wird, je nachdem, ob es sich um Christen oder Juden handelt. Wenn die Verheißung des Endes zu Ende geht und das rote Kalb verunstaltet und des Aderlasses nicht mehr würdig ist, sind die Gläubigen auf der ganzen Welt niedergeschlagen. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt sind zwei evangelikale Geistliche als Vertreter einer Megakirche in Amerika angekommen. Sie schließen einen Deal mit dem israelischen Moschawnik ab, und die israelischen Nutztiere kommen nach Amerika.
Währenddessen erteilt Papst Wohlwollend den Juden die Absolution, singt Karaoke mit Rabbi Ratzinger und Boris, ein Berkshire-Eber und tierischer Messias, wird als Hauptgericht beim letzten Abendmahl serviert. Die protestantischen Geistlichen lassen sich nicht lumpen und veranstalten ein Krippenspiel. Kurz bevor die Tiere an Bord des Schiffes nach Amerika gehen, erhebt sich Mel, das Maultier, und wird zum Papst Magnificant, der mit weißem Leinenmantel, Brustkreuz und päpstlichen roten Lederschuhen glänzt.
In Amerika angekommen, werden die Tiere durch das halbe Land nach Wichita, Kansas, transportiert, wo sie rechtzeitig zur Passionsspiel-Parade ankommen, bevor sie ihr endgültiges Ziel, eine christliche Farm, erreichen. Sieben Fernsehbildschirme, auf denen rund um die Uhr Kirchenpredigten laufen, werden mit Szenen aus einer Scheune, einem echten Zirkus, konfrontiert. Nach einer Weile, als sie es nicht mehr aushalten, jagen sie Mel aus der Scheune. Und Stanley, Manly Stanley, der schwarze belgische Hengst der Legende (wink, wink), schaltet die TV-Monitore für einen Moment der Stille aus und gibt dem Frieden eine Chance, wenn auch nur für kurze Zeit.
