Schoenberg, Krenek and Stravinsky in Exile von Claudia Maurer Zenck. Die Autorin befasst sich in diesem Text mit den Leben der drei Komponisten im Exil in den USA. Anhand dieser drei Beispiele verdeutlicht sie den Begriff "acculturation", stellt dar, inwieweit das Leben in einem neuen Land die Komponisten beeinflusst, inwieweit sie sich anpassen oder ihre europäische Kultur aufrechterhalten, diskutiert die Frage der (künstlerischen) Identität und beschäftigt sich mit den Auswirkungen all dieser Aspekte auf die Arbeit als Komponist. Sie beleuchtet jeweils drei Aspekte: die Arbeit am Boston Symphony Orchestra, die Lehrtätigkeit und die Kompositionen. Ich werde in dieser Arbeit einen genaueren Blick auf das Leben der drei Komponisten werfen und die wichtigsten Stationen und Ereignisse von der Emigration bis zum Tod zusammenfassen. Zuerst möchte ich jedoch noch kurz erläutern, was die Exilsituation eigentlich bedeutet. Wichtig ist, den kulturellen Unterschied zwischen Europa und Amerika zu betrachten: bisher waren die Vereinigten Staaten auf kulturellem Gebiet zurückgeblieben, weswegen viele Exilanten das fehlende Kulturleben zu beklagen hatten. Doch durch die zahlreich immigrierten europäischen Künstler hatten die USA nun die Gelegenheit, diesen Rückstand aufzuholen. Viele Künstler bauten sich ihren eigenen kleinen Kulturkreis auf, so bildeten sich oft Emigrantenkreise, die sich von der Umwelt abschotteten und sich selbst isolierten, mit dem Gedanken, wenn in Amerika schon kein Kulturleben vorhanden ist, dann zumindest ihre eigene europäische Kultur bewahren zu wollen und sich gegenseitig zu verstehen, da ihnen allen das gleiche Schicksal gemein ist
About the Author: Nadine Hellriegel studierte Musiktheater-Regie an der Theaterakademie der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg und spezialisierte sich bereits währen ihres Studiums auf das Thema "Amerikanische Oper". Nadine Hellriegel inszenierte bereits mehrere amerikanische Opern: "The Medium" und "Amahl and the Night Visitors" von Gian Carlo Menotti, "Bertha" von Ned Rorem, "Gallantry" von Douglas Moore und "Susannah" von Carlisle Floyd und hält regen Kontakt zu zeitgenössischen amerikanischen Komponisten. Derzeit arbeitet sie an der Staatlichen Jugendmusikschule Hamburg und arbeitet an ihrer Promotion.
