Dabei wird einleitend in das Leben Ovids und in sein Werk eingeführt. Zentraler Gegenstand der Arbeit soll anschließend die Analyse und Interpretation der Scylla-Sage des achten Buches mit Schwerpunkt auf den ersten Monolog sein. Scylla, die Tochter des gegen Minos Krieg führenden Königs Nisus von Megara. Diese besteigt oft einen Turm, von dem aus sie den Gefechten zusehen kann, erblickt den König Minos und verliebt sich in ihn. Es gibt nur einen Weg, Minos zum Sieg zu verhelfen und seine Liebe zu gewinnen. Scylla braucht nur eine Haarsträhne des Vaters, an die das Schicksal seiner Herrschaft gebunden ist, abzuschneiden. Voller Liebesraserei führt sie diesen Verrat aus und wünscht sich Minos als Gegengabe. Doch der König bezeichnet sie als Ungeheuer und weist sie zurück. Darauf segelt er nach seinem Sieg über die Stadt ohne Scylla davon. Die von Minos Abgewiesene gibt einen erneuten Monolog von sich und stürzt sich enttäuscht nach ihren Worten ins Meer, klammert sich an das Schiff des Königs und verwandelt sich in den Vogel Ciris. Der gerade zum Fischadler gewordene Vater fliegt auf sie zu und droht sie zu zerfleischen. Die Erzählungen über Scylla werden zuerst bei Aischylos erwähnt: Von Minos mit goldener Kette bestochen, schneidet sie ihrem Vater Nisos das Haar ab, an dem sein Schicksal hing (άθανάς τριχός), und tötet ihn dadurch. Nach Franz Bömer sind: "mit dieser Erzählung zwei bekannte Motive verbunden, die auch in der weitverzweigten Überlieferung immer wieder begegnen...".
