About the Book

English summary: This work studies the Romans' conception of body hygiene during the late Republic and the early Empire. By following several practical questions (what were they washing off, why, where, with what, and how?) and basing his findings on anthropological, archaeological and lexicological analyses, the author outlines the categories in which the Romans classified their idea of dirt, body hygiene and cleanliness.
