About the Book

Erich Romberg lebte in den 90er Jahren des letzten Jahrtausends ca. 10 Jahre in Irland. In dieser Zeit entstanden die Geschichten der Bände dieser Erzählreihe. Die Idee dazu kam ihm während eines Erzählerfestivals in der westirischen Kleinstadt Kiltimagh, das er dort zum ersten Mal erlebte. Inspiriert wurde er auch von den Erzählungen der Geschichtenerzähler an den knisternden Torffeuern, deren Flackern eine mystische Atmosphäre schuf. Nicht selten führten die Geschichten in eine weit zurückliegende Vergangenheit. Oft begannen diese mit "In grandfather's time...". In der vormedialen Zeit konnten die Erzählungen mehrere Abende dauern. In diesem 2. Band der Reihe werden sieben Geschichten erzählt. Es geht um Träume, Generationenverflechtungen, Liebe und Verrat, religiösen Eifer, Sucht und Selbsttäuschung, Eitelkeit und Machtgier und last but not least um Humor. Vor allem aber geht es wieder einmal um das Geschichtenerzählen an sich. Mehr noch als im ersten Band werden hier auch lyrische Elemente eingebaut. In der ersten Geschichte findet sich der Erzähler in einer Todeszelle wieder. Er soll ein Elternmörder sein. Seine Tin-Whistle begleitet ihn in den Tod. ... In der Titelgeschichte nimmt der Erzähler in Kinnegad zu später Stunde in der Dunkelheit und bei stürmischem Wetter eine betagte Anhalterin mit nach Moate und wird durch sie in einen Strudel unheimlicher Geschichten hineingezogen, die bis ins 16. Jahrhundert zurückreichen. Ist er etwa in die Nacht des ewigen Blutgerichts geraten, einem Fluch aus der Vergangenheit? In dieser Nacht holt sich der Teufel alle 70 Jahre einen Reisenden durch die Hand einer alten Frau, die unterwegs dazu steigt. ... Nach der Titelgeschichte lässt der Autor einen Geschichtenerzähler aus Donegal zu Worte kommen. Dieser erzählt vier Geschichten: Wie wird man ein Traumdesigner?
