Ten years ago, teenager Mark Watson found himself targeted by the ghost of a serial killer as it terrorized the New Jersey suburb of Cedar Ridge. He and his then-girlfriend, Christine Baker, barely survived the experience. Since then they've gone their separate ways, rebuilt their lives, and tried to put those horrors behind them.
At the end of the pandemic, private investigator and wizard-in-training Martin Green finds his celebration short-lived when he stumbles upon the rekindled evil that Mark and Christine thought they defeated. When he barely escapes the encounter, he knows he's going to need backup if this force is to be contained and banished.
Martin's mentor Henry Churchill has done his best to help his family thrive in the past year. With his partner Lexie on an extended leave to recover from a devastating attack, it's been good to have a break from demons, witches, and the rest of the insanity that comes with their usual cases. As this threat grows Henry realizes the time off has left him more out of practice than he thought, and he may have to draw power from his own supernaturally checkered past in order to survive.
To find the origin of this evil and extinguish it for good, Henry and Martin will have to enlist Mark and Christine's help, whether they like it or not (and they most certainly don't). But if they don't face the past and make peace with it, all of their lives and souls will be consumed by smoke and fire that's darker and hungrier than before.
And that will be just the beginning...
The Shadow of Victory is a perfect entry point to the chaotic, horrifying, and unconventional horror/urban fantasy series, The Winston & Churchill Case Files, and no prior knowledge of their previous adventures is required.
