About the Book

This is a story of the Peterson family and their trials on the Texas frontier. How they become involved with a Comanche Band, and how Peter becomes Shadow Walker. Shadow Walker the Mystery of Pale Deer, opens with a young Shadow Walker, Peter Peterson doing everyday chores. He is ten years old and very mischievous, a typical ten-year-old. Peter's family consist of a father Micah, mother Abigail, two brothers Micah Jr. and Jehu. Later Micah's brother Kale comes to live with his brother's family. Peter goes out hunting with his slingshot and low and behold he comes upon an Indian, Running Wolf, in his favorite thinking spot. The two boys become lifelong friends. Peter's mother Abigail becomes unhappy with life on the frontier and leaves her family and goes back east with Peter's brother Jehu. After four years Abigail returns back to the frontier with out Jehu. A very young girl of six, Ruth Tailor, after she flees from a burning house the Crow Indians capture her, and then she is traded to the Comanche Indians. Ruth becomes Two Feathers, a Comanche maiden. Peter and Running Wolf grow up as friends while the adults are not the wiser, until Running Wolf's father the chief is badly wounded and winds up in the front yard of the trading post. Micah, Peter's father nurses the badly wounded Indian back to health. The chief gives Peter his Indian name Shadow Walker. Running Wolf and Two Feathers begin to notice each other and one day marry. Two Feathers has become a very well-rounded Comanche maiden. The mystery of Pale Deer, Sissie is that she doesn't belong in the seventeen hundred. She shows up in the Comanche Village and the chief decided she is a spirit sent by the Great Spirit. No one knows where she came from and when she disappears no one knows where she went.
