About the Book

"What happens in the home, stays in the home," a familiar saying Sharday heard from her mother over and over again as a child and even still to this day. Writing her personal memoirs and most intimate secrets was almost like cheating to her as she confided in paper as a way to let go of the shame and embarrassment she felt for a long time by holding onto the past. Sharday discusses the growing pains of a child to a young adult such as living with a single parent, family members who suffered mental illnesses, and her own loves lost. Sharday for the first time really opens up her own personal life in a very vulnerable and intimate way where every poem is her experience and her story. This collection of prose is a standout because she is able to take the painful and troubling memories and experiences and communicate it to her readers in a beautiful way. The beauty existing in the pain is the revelation that she is free.
About the Author: As each body sprouts from the crevices of the world that is constantly evolving, there too grows millions of voices along with it. The air swells with the sound of mankind. From the quiet corners of a small town Sharday Cage was unknowingly sharpening her voice too. Sharday Cage was born in Troy, Missouri on September 30, 1985. She moved to Chicago in 2004 where she attended Saint Xavier University majoring in Mass Communications. A groundbreaking moment occurred as she recited one of her poems called "Forgiveness" for Sister Helen Prejean, who has become a leading American advocate for the abolition of the death penalty. Sharday Cage's writing only grew stronger from there as her life in Chicago heavily influenced her first collection of poetry called, Death of a Black Star which was published in November 2011. Sharday Cage covers a wide range of topics from violence to love to nature and spirituality but her perspective is always clear and most importantly filled with sincere honesty. Death of a Black Star was highly praised for thought provoking poems like "Zombie", "Red Line", and "Black Suit" that reaches a wide range of people defying age, race, or class. Death of a Black Star has since become a best seller on Amazon for African poetry on kindle and paperback. Sharday Cage remains in Chicago as an up and coming writer and poet performing throughout the city proclaiming loudly her voice so that it may be heard and understood and amongst the world; stand out.
