About the Book

Click calls his city the kingdom of barbed wire, gods, gangs and guns. No free guns, though- you pay with your life. It is there where the trees have made way for prostitutes, where people become invisible, and the crevices along the sidewalks swallow the homeless.
SHE CALLED ME CLICK is based on the true accounts of his life as told by Click Moeketsi, a renowned black South African photographer.
Click Moeketsi grew up abandoned and alone, cast out of his former squatter town and into one of the most notorious and dangerous streets in the city of Johannesburg, but his life changed the day he held his first camera in his hands.
During his exclusive interview in Dubai, Click Moeketsi recalls the time he lived amidst the ghastliest conditions imaginable and heartbreakingly portrays his terrifying and malicious past while fighting for survival in a city where everything around him was falling apart.
When a former gang member left him for dead in an alleyway, a white family came to his rescue. The Reese's helped Click to escape the clutches of the gangs and the streets and took him into their home, against all better judgement. But when Click sneaked back into the slums of Soweto where he wanted to get that one last, perfect photo- the people he cared for most, paid the ultimate price.
Click did become the famous photographer he wanted to be and gained the affection and respect of his former community and the world. He won several accolades and received invitations from internationally renowned dignitaries and celebrities while attending the most notable social gatherings; appointed as an exclusive photographer to the rich and famous.
Click Moeketsi went from living on the streets- to giving the streets new meaning and life through his amazing photography and the stories his photos tell.
