In 1903 zag 'Het lege huis' het licht. In dit verhaal keert Sherlock Holmes terug naar Baker Street 221B en legt aan zijn trouwe vriend, Dokter John Watson, uit hoe hij zijn dood bij de Reichenbach waterval in scène heeft gezet. In 2012 kwam het misdrijf van het lege huis aan het licht. Het voormalige huis van Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Undershaw, is in verval geraakt en wordt bedreigd met vernieling. Undershaw was gebouwd in uitdrukkelijk opdracht van Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Hier heeft hij vele van zijn meest bekende werken geschreven, onder andere 'De hond van de Baskervilles' en 'De terugkeer van Sherlock Holmes'. Het huis is een belangrijk monument en als zodanig verdient het behoud voor de toekomst; niet alleen als Brits erfgoed, maar ook wereldwijd. Helaas wordt het huis momenteel bedreigd door projectontwikkelaars. Zij opteren het gebouw in drie afzonderlijke eenheden te verdelen en er aanvullend vijf appartementen naast te bouwen. De bouwvergunning is al door de Raad van Waverley Borough goedgekeurd. 'The Undershaw Preservation Trust' (UPT De stichting ter behoud van Undershaw), met Mark Gatiss (bekend van BBC 'Sherlock') als beschermheer, is gewijd aan het behoud en bescherming van dit belangrijk literair bouwwerk. De organisatie vecht voortdurend het besluit van de Raad aan, zodat het huis vervolgens in zijn oorspronkelijke glorie hersteld kan worden. De leden van UPT streven ernaar de bezoekers het huis te laten ervaren als het alleenstaande landgoed dat Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in gedachten had, en er als zodanig van te laten genieten. Dit boek is een verzameling van korte verhalen en gedichten over Sherlock Holmes, geschreven door fans over de hele wereld ter ondersteuning van de 'Save Undershaw'-campagne ('Red Undershaw'). Zelfs de omslag werd door fans bedacht! Alle opbrengsten gaan naar UPT om dit prachtige huis voor toekomstige generaties Doylians, Sherlock Holmes enthousiastelingen en andere literaire fanaten te behouden.
