Soldato, dove hai messo il tuo cilicio?
Con questo incipit il romanzo introduce il lettore in una società distopica, una città - fortezza popolata da soli uomini e organizzata in un rigido ordinamento gerarchico. La classe dominante è rappresentata dai Superiori, che governano la Città e sono a loro volta soggetti all'autorità assoluta dell'Irreprensibile. Egli è l'unico a poter entrare in contatto diretto con il Teobasilio, un'entità mistica che è l'unica fonte di energia per tutta la Città. L'ossatura della società è costituita dai soldati, che sono soggetti a una rigida disciplina e vengono sorvegliati dal corpo speciale delle Sentinelle. Tutti portano sull'omero un cilicio, simbolo di fedeltà al Teobasilio.
La storia inizia quando il soldato Zaion viene sorpreso privo del cilicio regolamentare. Punito e degradato, egli non sa o non vuole fornire una giustificazione plausibile né dare indicazioni sulla sorte dell'oggetto scomparso. I Superiori gli mettono alle costole un'ambigua Sentinella, Anton, con l'incarico di aiutarlo nelle ricerche ma soprattutto di esercitare una stringente sorveglianza. Anton è uno strano uomo. Cinico e beffardo, non lascia capire fino a che punto sia disposto a credergli e ad aiutarlo. Una particolarità che si fa notare è il suo volto, insolitamente irregolare per una società dove ogni deformità viene eliminata con crudeli criteri eugenetici.
Tre destini si incrociano in una partita dall'esito imprevedibile, dove l'amore e la morte sono le uniche carte disponibili, ma anche la posta in gioco.

L'autrice
Nata a Genova, vive attualmente a Roma, dove ha svolto la professione di psicologa e psicoterapeuta. Ha coltivato diversi generi di narrativa, fra cui il giallo umoristico, il noir, il fantastico weird e la fantascienza. Due volte finalista al Premio Urania, ha pubblicato con Delos Digital Il Nastro di Sanchez (2017), primo di una trilogia che continua con Il figlio di Nergal e Tequiero La stagione dei mostri (usciti entrambi nel 2019). Nel 2018 ha pubblicato Icarus (Watson Edizioni) e nel 2020 con CS_Libri La mappa dei gesti possibili che unisce due racconti lunghi. Il racconto La legge della penombra, vincitore del Premio Kipple Short, è stato pubblicato da Kipple Officina Libraria nel 2018. Altri racconti sono usciti su riviste italiane e straniere e in diverse antologie, fra cui La prima frontiera (Kipple 2019). Il racconto Corpi paralleli è apparso nella raccolta Temponauti, curata da Franco Forte (Mondadori, Urania Millemondi estate 2021). Recentemente ha partecipato alla raccolta Il Fiore della Quintessenza (Ali Ribelli, 2021).
