About the Author: Stacie Ferrell-Tucker is the founder and CEO of Sisters Living with Alopecia Inc., Stacie silently suffered with a medical condition called scarring alopecia. She hid her condition from friends and family for over 2 decades. She eventually became depressed and devastated when she found out that her hair would never grow back. She then became secluded from the world and refused to date or let anyone get close to her with fear of rejection and social outcast. It wasn't until July 2011 that she decided that she would not go another hot summer hiding under her wigs but she needed help and encouragement from someone that could relate and help her to expose her true self. Stacie had long stopped loving herself after she lost her hair. She felt alone but was not aware that she wasn't alone. There too were others that felt as Stacie did. Stacie sought help locally but there were no support groups in Little Rock, AR or close by. Stacie did her research and could only find online groups. It was then that she gained support and encouragement. God had given Stacie the vision to start a support group but he wanted her to do more than set up a support group, he needed her to be the voice and face for other women and children who were also suffering in silence with shame, who also felt alone. Stacie conceived the life of SLWA in 2011. Five months after conception, Stacie gave birth to Sisters Living with Alopecia on April 4, 2012. It was then that she gained a sense of empowerment and self-love. No more living in shame! It is Stacie's passion that makes her a strong leader. Stacie has no formal training in public speaking, she speaks from her heart. People connect with her because she is so passionate about Alopecia awareness, funding a cure, building one's self esteem or assisting with funding a high-school graduate's higher education through SLWA's scholarship fund. Sisters Living with Alopecia Inc. are a nonprofit foundation. Its mission is to provide resources and funding to assist women and children suffering from permanent hair loss. When funds are available the foundation will assist women and children with hair treatments, hair replacements, quality wigs, and installment services.
