About the Book

Research by respected scientists has shown that America has about 8.4 millionsleepwalkers and the UK has a little over 2.4 million. And somnambulists areknown to have killed at least 70 people - with courts finding a huge percentageinnocent of any crime.Few people suspected that 27-year-old Fraser, a loving and protective husbandand father, was possessed by monsters which dominated him when he was asleep. These 'demons' goaded him into acts of savagery which culminated in thebattering to death of his infant son Simon. Like other nightmare killers, a juryfound him not guilty because he had been asleep at the time. Chief Inspector Robert Ledru of the Surete was a brilliant detective. In fact, hissuperiors in Paris rated him as possibly the most brilliant in France. He was alsovain and arrogant until, that is, he realised he also suffered sleep problems andarrested himself for murder.Jo Ann, a Kentucky teenager in ankle socks goes on trial for her life afterfighting an hour long gun battle with a burglar. Her father and little brother die inthe shoot out. Twenty-four hours later she's charged with double murder. Theintruder had existed only in her nightmare - and because of her sleepwalking herown shots had killed the people she loved. These are just three of the incredible cases explored in The Sleepwalk Killers - caseswhere nightmares are not just bad dreams and the violence very real.
About the Author: Leslie Watkins' diversity of assignments as a veteran Fleet Street journalist ranged from being Father Christmas at London's Selfridge's store to patrolling Belfast's blood-stained streets with armed troops during The Troubles. That is reflected in the authenticity evident in his novels such as The Killing of Idi Amin -- partly based on his harsh imprisonment during the maniacal dictator's reign of terror in Uganda. His interest in sleepwalking violence was sparked when he covered the case of an American airman found not guilty of strangling a British girl to death. He has also drawn on his extensive dealings with politicians including former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher - for whom he had a high regard - and on his in-depth interviews with former 'patients' in Russia's notorious prison-hospitals for his best-selling Alternative 3 as well as for his recently-published political warfare thriller The Unexploded Man.
