About the Author: Ty Freyvogel is an Entrepreneur who has founded more than a dozen businesses in fields as diverse as weight-loss, automotive services, technology and retail over the course of his 38-year career. Following his graduation from John Carroll University (JCU) in 1970 he served a stint as an officer in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps before joining the family funeral business in Pittsburgh. But in the early 1970s he saw new opportunities in the impending deregulation of the communications industry, so he founded a consulting firm to offer a variety of leading-edge telecommunications services to both small and large corporations. Over time, these businesses consolidated into Freyvogel Communications, Inc., which is still thriving three decades later. A graduate of the Entrepreneurial Management Program conducted by the Carnegie Mellon University Graduate School of Industrial Administration, Ty has lent his talents to many organizations, among them the JCU Alumni Board of Trustees, JCU Board of Regents, Hiram College Board of Trustees, Catholic Cemetery Association Board of Trustees, and the Grove City College Entrepreneurship Advisory Council. He is a Member of the Order of Knights of Malta and until recently served on their Board of Directors. Ty is the author of three books: Smarts, Guts & Luck: Straight Talk for Entrepreneurs, It's Not Your Smarts - It's Your Schmooze and Seize the Century. He created a website called MakingSenseofYourBusiness.com which provides entrepreneurs with practical advice on how to launch and operate a small business. His articles have been published or excerpted in Entrepreneur, BusinessWeek, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, and many others. Ty is a communicator and educator who serves on numerous non-profit boards and provides volunteer guidance to many worthy causes. In his spare time Ty enjoys playing golf, riding his mountain bike, reading and traveling. He resides in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania with his wife Katherine. They are the parents of seven and the grandparents of twenty.
