Kaum ein Medienthema polarisierte den gesellschaftlichen Diskurs der letzten Jahre so nachhaltig wie die sozialen Medien. Der Begriff SocialMania beschreibt das Phanomen eines hochfrequenten sozialen Kommunikationsverhaltens im digitalen Lebensraum. Die positive Seite konnte man darin sehen, dass den Menschen durch das Social Web die Moglichkeit gegeben wird, Inhalte selbst mitzugestalten und am politischen Geschehen mitzuwirken. Auf der anderen Seite scheinen zunehmend private und individuelle Praferenzen gegenuber gesamtgesellschaftlichen favorisiert zu werden.

So liegt die Frage nahe, ob Medien ihrer Funktion, in einer komplexen Gesellschaft ein offentliches Bewusstsein herzustellen, noch nachkommen konnen. Oder werden demokratische Prozesse zukunftig zunehmend von unten angetrieben? Und wird nicht gerade durch die neue Rolle jedes einzelnen als Autor und Kritiker ein Bewusstsein geschaffen, das Demokratie fordert und starkt? Die Beitrage dieses Bandes gehen auf Aspekte dieser Diskussion aus padagogischer, soziologischer, netzpolitischer und medienwissenschaftlicher Sicht ein.


About the Author: Petra Grimm ist Professorin fur Medienforschung/Kommunikationswissenschaft an der Hochschule der Medien (HdM), Stuttgart. Sie ist eine der Leiterinnen des Instituts fur Digitale Ethik (IDE). Michael Muller studierte Literaturwissenschaft, Philosophie, Logik und Wissenschaftstheorie an der Universitat Munchen. Nach einer Tatigkeit als Kulturmanager bei der Siemens AG machte er sich selbstandig und unterstutzt seit mehr als 20 Jahren Unternehmen bei der Kommunikation nach innen und aussen. Seit 2010 ist er Professor fur Medienanalyse und Medienkonzeption an der Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart und leitet dort das "Institut fur Angewandte Narrationsforschung".
