Increase in global population, drastic changes in the environment, soil degradation and decrease in quality and quantity of agricultural productivity warranted us to adapt sustainable farming practices. About the Author: Dr. Channarayappa, hailed from Guttahalli, Chikkaballapur District (Karnataka); Received B.Sc (Agri) degree in Agricultural Sciences; M.Sc. (Agri.) and Ph.D., degrees (in Genetics and plant breeding) from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru; He earned his second Ph.D., in Genetics and Developmental Biology at West Virginia University (WVU), USA; Worked as a teaching assistant in the Biology Department, WVU Postdoctoral fellow (WVU) and Postdoctoral Associate at the UT-MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, USA. He worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, UAS, Bengaluru; Worked as Principal, Professor and Head of Genetics, Vydehi Institute of Biotech Sciences; Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, Ramaiah Institute of Technology (RIT) Bengaluru; Currently, working as a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. Taught various subjects to UG and PG students. He has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience. Organized national and international conferences, workshops and presented research papers in many conferences. He was a chairperson, board of studies and board of examinations, at RIT, Bangalore. Serving as a member in many editorial boards and professional societies. He is the author of three textbooks "Molecular Biotechnology: Principles and Practices", Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology, Published by Universities Press, Hyderabad. Published a number of research papers. Received ICAR junior and senior fellowships, and awarded by "The Jawaharlal Nehru National Award for Outstanding Postgraduate Agricultural Research", 1993, by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. W. Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, GERMANY; Post doctorate (3) (Particle bombardment in wheat transgenic production) from Rothamsted Research Station, Harpenden, England, UK. Joined service as Instructor and served as Asst. Prof., Assoc. Prof., Professor and Registrar, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. Presently, the Vice-Chancellor, UAS, Dharwad. Have several awards and incentives of Government, institutional and outside professional bodies of State and National Level. Served as Chairman/Member/Fellow of several academic and professional organizations at National and International level.
