About the Book

Barry Levitt's a thirty-something loser on the verge of discovering he's the bastard son of legendary 30's pulp hero, The Ravager. And, when a notorious steel-plated killer unleashes a unique brand of devastation at a local Weight Watchers meeting, Barry's forced to choose between embracing his legacy or walking away from it forever.

After reading, "The Holographic Detective Agency," Mr. Linde's first novel, I had high expectations for, "Son of Ravage."I am here to tell you; he does not disappoint. "Son of Ravage" follows our hero Barry and his friends; Doc, Brain, Face, and Beast as they go on an adventure of such epic proportions it makes "Indiana Jones" look like a trip to the mall. Mr. Linde, paying homage to the over the top pulp serial publications of times past, has crafted such a unique, original story, that once started, you will not be able to put it down. Every chapter is a neatly parceled package waiting to be unwrapped.I do not want to give away any of the story elements here as I want you to discover and delight in them as I did. Suffice to say, Mr. Linde pulls out all the stops.
The situations are, to put it mildly, fantastic. Our heroes brush up against and interact with so many unusual and creative scenarios it leaves you thinking that there is no way that they can be topped. Then Mr. Linde, never to shrug from an artistic challenge, does precisely that. He tops himself, again. And again. And again. The action leaps off the page as Mr. Linde ratchets up the excitement and stakes for our heroes and he does not dial it back.
Also, this book is funny. I mean, really funny. Linde infuses humor into every scene and interaction. I found myself laughing out loud so many times I lost count. The banter between Barry and his friends is honest, sincere and authentic. This reader sincerely hopes Mr. Linde has a sequel in his future because I am not done with these characters by a long shot. This book is fun, funny, action-packed, heartfelt, emotional and expertly written. I cannot recommend it enough. -R. Sherwood. Sherwood Creative.

J.P. Linde has successfully delivered a novel that is both a loving homage to the pulp fiction genre, and a hilarious satire of it. The story grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go, as the adventure winds through scenes of ninjas, gangsters, punk rock, drug lords, futuristic inventions, cults, and - perhaps most terrifying of all - suburban Weight Watchers meetings.
Linde has a gift for using language and references that perfectly capture the various time periods in which his story takes place. His vast and detailed knowledge of American pop culture spans decades, and he effortlessly transports the reader from the 1980s to the 50s and back again. His solid storytelling makes it easy to visualize the book's fast-paced action. Linde's characters and plotlines are unpredictable, funny, and completely captivating. He has masterfully combined descriptive prose, snappy dialogue, and non-stop escapades to create a novel that fills the reader with bemused anxiety in the best possible way. "Son of Ravage" is "the Goonies meet James Bond meets Gulliver's Travels."
The humor ranges from slapstick to sardonic to delightfully absurd. I will look forward to more works from this author and would love to see this novel adapted as an animated series; the color, excitement, and tongue-in-cheek comedy that Linde has so skillfully woven together would lend itself perfectly to that medium. Above all, this is just a really fun read. I hereby take the "The Ravager Pledge"! -- A McKennie
