Sonne im Glas ist die Geschichte der Reise eines Jugendlichen aus der DDR an den Balaton im Jahre 1962. Es ist keine Liebesgeschichte, jedoch erzählt der Autor einfühlsam über den Beginn einer Jahrzehnte währenden Freundschaft von Maria und Peter. Auf den Kanaren werden bei Peter Erinnerungen an seine erste Individualreise zu seiner Brieffreundin Maria an den Balaton wach. Im Traum unternimmt er eine Zeitreise, beamt sich Jahrzehnte zurück. Peter, damals 19 Jahre alt, der Eiserne Vorhang trennt Ost und West und schränkt in der DDR die Reisefreiheit ein. Für Peter erfüllt sich endlich ein Traum: Die Überschreitung von Ländergrenzen, was für ihn ein bisschen Freiheit bedeutet. Schon der Beginn im Balt-Orient-Express wird abenteuerlich. Im Gespräch mit Reisenden erfährt er, dass andere DDR-Bürger schon lange in Länder reisen, die ihm und seinen Eltern verwehrt wurden. Er erkennt, dass einige mit Privilegien leben, andere um jede kleine Freiheit ringen müssen. Begegnungen und Gespräche, insbesondere mit einem Geschichtsprofessor und dem Vater von Maria, einen Arzt aus Leidenschaft, bringen ihm die Geschichte des Gastlandes und die Mentalität der Menschen nahe. Gefährlicher Leichtsinn und für ihn ungenießbare Speisen bereiten der Gastgeberfamilie Sorgen. Erst Jahre später erfährt Peter von einem Geheimnis und einem damit verbundenem tragischen Ereignis. Eine auf wahren Begebenheiten beruhender Roman, der den Leser einen authentischen Einblick in die 60-iger Jahre der DDR erlaubt, da der Autor das gesellschaftliche Umfeld kritisch hinterfragt.
About the Author: Gerd Pechstein, Jahrgang 1942, in Gerichshain bei Leipzig geboren, studierte Betriebswirtschaft an der Ingenieurhochschule Köthen und Ökonomie an der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle. Als letzte Aufgabe in seinem Arbeitsleben hat er das Thüringer Wald-Kreativ-Museum in Großbreitenbach in Thür. aufgebaut und geleitet. Er ist verheiratet, hat einen Sohn und lebt heute als Rentner in Ilmenau. Seit 2008 widmet er sich dem Schreiben und veröffentliche mehrere Bücher. Seine Themen fand er in der Ahnenforschung und verarbeitete Erlebnisse aus seinen Überwinterungen auf seiner Lieblingsinsel Fuerteventura.
