For years, Earl Patterson was his own worst enemy. Though he was able to overcome numerous obstacles in life and maintain a high opinion of himself, when it came to playing football, rocking rhymes, and excelling in school, he tricked himself into believing that mediocrity was OK, and bullied himself into looking at the world through a warped lens set to someone else's view of the world.
It wasn't until later in life that Patterson was able to correct his vision of the world, and of himself, and approach life's challenges as paradigm shifts that can ultimately make or break us in the end. Choosing the former approach, and calling upon his years of experience as the leader of a rap/rock group, Patterson set down his life experiences in poetry, to help others overcome obstacles and inspire them to stop bullying themselves.
The poems that comprise this compelling collection are honest, raw, and real, and they flow together seamlessly to deliver both a highly personal story and a set of universal truths that will comfort readers and give them a sense of freedom, encouragement, and hope.
Poignant, powerful, and profound, Sought Thoughts is a must-read for people who want to expand their horizons through candor and rhyme.
About the Author: W. Earl Patterson is a husband, father, and mentor who holds a bachelor's degree in business management. He originally hails from Maryland, where he led a local rap/rock group during his teens and twenties.
Before he was busting beats and rocking rhymes, Patterson faced numerous challenges growing up. Though he developed a sense of right and wrong early on, and managed to sidestep many of the distractions that derailed his peers, he still hustled from time to time-though the person he hustled most was himself. Like too many young kids thrust into the chaos of urban life, he bullied himself into settling for less than he truly deserved.
But Patterson is proof positive that it's never too late for an old dog to learn new tricks. With his debut collection of poetry, Sought Thoughts, he looks at his own struggles from a fresh perspective that encourages others to seek strength from within.
