About the Book

Soul Therapy is a collection of spoken word pieces created through the personal experiences of the author, Max Lit. These pieces range in subject matter from family, love and relationships, social issues and just the struggle of finding oneself. It is the hope of the author that those who have taken a chance to read this work can find themselves in some of these writings and find comfort and solace, inspiration and purpose.
About the Author: Max Lit was born Jason Oliver Franklin in Brooklyn, NY on October 1st, 1979 to parents Oliver and Jacolie Franklin. As a child, it was noticed that he read pretty much anything that was placed in front of him, from ingredient labels on cereal boxes and canned goods to newspapers and magazines. Although it wasn't right away known to those around him during his youth, Max began developing his passion for writing as early as the first grade when he penned his first poem in memoriam to a childhood friend who had lost his battle with leukemia. In the years that followed, Max further honed his craft as a budding MC as a part of a childhood trio called The H.I.T. Squad. In August of 2003, Max Lit (known then as Jay Fitty) moved from South Jamaica Queens, NY to Greenville, South Carolina with aspirations to further his interest in becoming a recording artist. About a year later, he met a local collective called Newspeak (which included poet/ MC Moodswing, now known as Moody Black, producers Ings and HashAdams and group organizer/ promoter Dirty). Sharing sort of a kindred spirit through their shared love of true Hip-Hop, Newspeak would later include Jay Fitty in the collaborative group called DirtyMentalz, which would be later known as the DirtyMentalz Movement. Over the next few years, Jay released his debut album titled Truth Be Told in 2005 and began recording the follow up, The Revival, which at the time of this book's printing has yet to be released. During The Revival recording period, Jay Fitty would become Max Lit, the name change suggested to him in an effort to definitively distinguish himself from other artists. Since he felt that poetry/ spoken word allowed him to express himself in ways that Hip-Hop music did not, Max Lit set out to seriously develop this facet of his art and that dedication spawned the works included in this publication. Max Lit is currently working on his first novel and a screenplay.
