Das halte ich nicht aus, am liebsten würde ich abhauen." (Report Psychologie 15.04.2014) Bei meiner Arbeit als Schulsozialarbeiterin an einem Berufskolleg begegneten mir immer wieder Schülerinnen und Schüler, die über ähnliche Erfahrungen und Erlebnisse berichteten. Viele erlebten Unsicherheit in sozialen Situationen, hatten Angst, vor größeren Gruppen zu sprechen; Angst, nach einem Praktikumsplatz zu fragen; Angst, vor Prüfungen und teilweise auch Angst, telefonischen Kontakt mit Institutionen aufzunehmen. Diese Ängste können sich sehr belastend auf das Leben der Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen auswirken und führten mitunter zu starkem Vermeidungsverhalten. Teilweise trauten sich die Betroffenen bei Krankheiten nicht, in der Schule anzurufen oder vermeiden den Schulbesuch vollständig, was sich negativ auf ihre Zukunftschancen auswirkte. Meine Beobachtungen werden durch Studien zur sozialen Phobie bestätigt. Nach Angaben von der wissenschaftliche Geschäftsführerin der Verhaltenstherapieambulanz Frankfurt Dr. Regina Steil ist die soziale Phobie "eine der häufigsten psychischen Erkrankungen im Jugend- und jungen Erwachsenenalter, wobei soziale Ängste mit einem hohen Risiko für einen vorzeitigen Schulabbruch einhergehen" (iDW, 19.09.2012). Circa 5 bis 10% aller Jugendlichen erkranken im Laufe ihres Lebens nach Angaben des Informationsdienst Wissenschaft (iDW) an einer sozialen Phobie (ebd.).Die folgende Arbeit wird sich zunächst umfassend mit der Theorie sozialer Angst in ihren unterschiedlichen Ausprägungsformen beschäftigen, auf die Verbreitung im Jugendalter näher eingehen und dann die Zusammenhänge von sozialer Angst und Schule aufzeigen.
