Dieser Frage wird in folgenden Schritten nachgegangen: Zur Einführung in die Thematik werden zu Beginn im Rahmen einer Begriffsbestimmung die Begriffe "Soziale Ungleichheit", "Bildungsungleichheit" und "Bildungsgerechtigkeit" näher erläutert, welche die Grundbausteine der Thematik bilden. Daran anschließend werden prägnante Ergebnisse der PISA-Studie kurzbündig nähergebracht, um die Stärken und Schwächen des deutschen Bildungssystems offenzulegen. Im weiteren Verlauf sollen die Gründe für die vorliegende Bildungsungleichheit in Deutschland präsentiert werden. Daran anknüpfend soll im Hauptteil der Arbeit das Konzept der Ganztagsschule, als Mittel zur Überwindung von Bildungsungleichheiten, präsentiert werden. In diesem Kapitel der Ausarbeitung soll hinterfragt werden, ob die Ganztagsschule als mögliche Handlungsperspektive der deutschen Bildungsmisere identifiziert werden kann. Dazu soll die Ganztagsschule definiert und die unterschiedlichen Modelle vorgestellt werden. Nachfolgend werden die aktuellen Zahlen bestehender Ganztagsschulen offengelegt, um die Gegenwärtigkeit von Ganztagsschulen auch im Vergleich zu den anfänglichen 2000ern zu verdeutlichen. Im weiteren Punkt wird argumentiert, warum es als sinnvoll erscheint, ganztägige Schulangebote überhaupt in das deutsche Bildungssystem zu integrieren. Letztlich wird im Hauptteil abschließend die StEG-Studie knapp präsentiert, um mit bisher erzielten Ergebnissen die Wirkung von Ganztagsschulen zu verdeutlichen. Ein Fazit greift in Hinblick auf die zu bearbeitende Fragestellung alle wichtigen Ergebnisse auf.
