About the Book

A Splendid Awakening is a soulful collection of ninety-two lyrical poems that attest to the enlightenment that the light of Christ Jesus avails to man so that his spirit can transcend the clamor of today's world and come into communion with god the Creator. Bound together by the common threads of good hope through love, the verses are meant to tune man's inner awareness in a way that enables him to join the conversation in heavenly places instead of wallowing in the lowly, selfish conditions and thought that pervade modern society. The fourth volume in author/poet Kalu Onwuka's Poems in Faithfulness to the Divine series, A Splendid Awakening touches on a variety of spiritual matters and real-life experiences that are pooled together in different streams throughout the text. The volume begins with a succinct poem entitled "Good and Lovely", which speaks to the fact that the good in life are hard to come by without divine blessing. It suggests that mankind everywhere should not only seek the good and lovely, but also treasure as well as hold such dear in the heart when found. Building on this momentum, the next pool of verses highlights the enduring truth that man can only attain fullness when he is part of a whole and not alone. Beginning with "Thankfulness is Essential", these pieces show that Providence readily blesses the man who is thankful for his gifts and that there is great hope for the man who shares with others. Next, a series of verses encourages readers to persevere through moments of trial, so as to reach out for better things in life, reminding them that it takes true deprivation for man to sort through his existence in order to let go of the unimportant things that clutter his being and take up the room that the important things need to thrive. The entries in this pool, especially "Changes through Drought", challenge man to resort his earthly lot in a heavenly order and stress that mankind has settled for the lowly for too long. "The Prize is Ahead" opens up the next pool of Onwuka's compelling poems, which address the fact that the prize everyone should seek lies in the future, not in the past. Together, theses entries highlight how man must let go of the past so that he can find wholeness and caution man not to return not to return to his mistake-laden past for doing so would threaten the promises that his future that holds. Letting go of the past, however, is not always easy and the next pool of verses bemoans this fact. Poems like " Cave Dweller' capture man's nearsightedness and speak to how man seeks to hold on to the old ways despite how tragically flawed as they are. Acknowledging that mankind's old way of living brings out the worst in humanity, leading to envy and strife, this pool encourages mankind to no longer settle for the shortcomings of the old way so as to come into a new vision of life. Only with such vision will life's troubles become minimized so that man can step into the future, where many amazing things are possible. All told, A Splendid Awakening will uplift your spirit and propel you along your spiritual journey as it take shape on earth. Sure to appeal to anyone of faith who loves poetry, this potent, powerful compilation will touch your heart and nourish your soul with reminders of God's power and love for mankind.
